Description
The MET crossflow cell (for use with systems, such as MET's combined METcell with METcell CrossFlow System) is a 316 stainless steel, high-pressure filtration cell suitable for reverse osmosis (RO) and nanofiltration (NF) separations using aqueous and non-aqueous solvents. The cell is a clamped design to allow quick and easy membrane changeover. All components of the assembled system are pressure rated to 69 bar (1000 psig). It is possible to choose between two different Crossflow Cell dimensions, the 2.5" which houses 50 mm diameter membranes, or the 4" which houses 90 mm diameter membranes.

2.5" Crossflow Cell: Technical Specification
Operating Parameters
Membrane Size: 50 mm diameter (area = 20 cm2)
Active Membrane Size: 42 mm diameter (area = 14 cm2)
Operating Volume: 20 mL
Hold-up Volume: ~5 mL
Maximum Pressure: 69 bar (1000 psig)
Maximum Temperature: The lower of 50 °C or the temperature at which the vapour pressure of the solvent exceeds 1.5 Bar absolute.
Material Compatibility: The material is tolerant to all aqueous and organic solvents compatible with 316 stainless steel (ss) and FEP.

Dimensions
Cell Diameter: 100 mm including clamp
Cell Height: 25 mm

4" Crossflow Cell: Technical Specification
Operating Parameters
Membrane Size: 90 mm diameter (area = 63.6 cm2)
Active Membrane Size: 80.8 mm diameter (area = 51.4 cm2)
Cell Volume on Feed Side: 40 mL
Permeate Hold-up Volume: ~5 mL
Maximum Operating Pressure: 69 bar (1000 psig)
Maximum Operating Temperature: The lower of 50 °C or the temperature at which the vapour pressure of the solvent exceeds 1.5 Bar absolute.
Material Compatibility: The material is tolerant to all aqueous and organic solvents compatible with 316 stainless steel (ss) and FEP.

Dimensions
Cell Diameter: 150 mm (including clamp); 120 mm for cell only
Cell Height: 35 mm (excluding height of fittings additional height on cell top)

Connections
Permeate Outlet: 1/8 ” diameter 316 SS Tubing
Feed Inlet: 1/4 ” NPT (female)
Retentate Outlet: 1/4 ” NPT (female)

Wetted Materials
Cell and Sintered Disk: 316 Stainless Steel
O-rings: FEP-coated Viton and Viton; OR all FEP-coated Viton available on request

Features

  • The MET crossflow cell is designed to meet the requirements of the Pressure Equipment Directive;
  • The materials of construction are in compliance with FDA current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP);
  • Safe operation up to 69 bar with high pressure mechanical couplings (ASME BPE 1997 compliant) and seals, enabling RO and NF separations to be carried out;
  • Provision of fittings for connection to 1/4” diameter tubing for the feed and retentate and 1/8” tube for the permeate;
  • All components can be sterilised or autoclaved as part of a cleaning procedure;
